Ultimate Fall Cleaning Routine ~ Family Room

After the kitchen I would say our Family a Room areas are the worst as far as needing detailed attention.

We have a small living room/office area that we haven’t really done anything with yet. A large bonus room/school room that has already taken a beating the last 2 weeks and then our main family room.

I haven’t decided if I will split each room up or do it by task yet. Getting a room completely done is appealing but also not having to get supplies out more than once is too.

Starting at the top so all the dust falls
Dust ceiling/walls
Change filters
Start washing the couch covers
Then wash the throw blankets, or get them out if I haven’t yet.
Replace pillow inserts/covers if needed
Polish furniture
Windows and window tracks
Clean walls(I just use these and they work like a charm)
Fill in nail holes
Update pictures
Clean baseboards
Go through magazines, candles
Make sure CDs and movies are in order
Vacuum and mop
Spot clean rugs that can’t be washed
Touch up wall and baseboard paint

When it’s all done, I usually treat myself to a couple new candles or something 🧡

Speedy Fall Cleaning in the Kitchen

Our kitchen could use some deep cleaning! It gets abused every week and sometimes I just don't get to every little thing I want to!
~Dust the top of the cabinets/fridge
~Wipe down the inside of the cabinets
~Small appliances need some extra love too!
~Deep Clean the Fridge
~Clean the oven, self clean or spot clean
~make a batch of disposal cleaning cubes
~Pantry, wipe shelves down and toss expired stuff
~Check napkins and tablecloths. It's almost the holiday season, do you have what you need?

Speedy Fall Cleaning Family Room

I didn't Fall Clean last year, we had just moved in and nothing really needed deep cleaning. It needed organizing and everything else that comes with moving in.

But this year, oh goodness does it ever need it!
I am starting fresh in this smaller house, should take less time!
I put an experimental recipe, or lack of, in the Instant Pot and some good music and it should only take an afternoon!

I have always started in the kitchen, switching it up this year and working on the Family Room.
Anything that gets done with my weekly cleaning won't be on this deep cleaning list.
~Wipe down walls
~Window Tracks, before it turns to mud!
~Vacuum, Wipe and Touch Up Baseboards
~Wipe Down Doors and Touch Up Paint
~Heather Vents.. clean them out and wipe down
~Swap Pictures in frames if I have them
~Wash Curtains
~Fireplace.. put the grate in and take the candles out
~Vacuum behind all of the electronics
~Spot Clean Upholstery and Vacuum out couch
~Quick Clutter Sweep
Then the rewards for getting that all done!
Put throw blankets and extra pillows out
New Candles or Scentsy

Then it's all ready for Halloween Decorations!

Bedroom Fall Cleaning

That is what I have been working on this week, just the kids rooms, all 3 of them!

While it won't be as detailed as THIS list, I am trying really hard to just focus on the projects, not a 20 min cleaning but stuff that takes time!

In the kids rooms this week I hope to accomplish
~a big ol' toy purge!
~touching up the paint on the baseboards
~steam clean the mattresses
~Dusting all the high places I don't get every week.
~Fill nail holes and caulking the window trim
~Clean the window tracks

I've already cleaned the baseboards (baby wipes and magic eraser) in prep for paint, and cleaned the windows, goodness I didn't realize how long it had been! EWW
The microfiber was CLEAN when I started the windows!

Next week is the laundry room and Kitchen, just in time for Thanksgiving!

This week was way more productive! Bedroom Fall Cleaning ~

I don't know how! Even working overtime I managed to get every drawer, basket and cubby in our bedroom organized, emptied and cleaned out. Even under the bed!!!

 Before

After

Everything dusted and vacuumed, the baseboards all scrubbed and the paint touched up. Window tracks cleaned out (and these ones are HORRIBLE).
I also moved the dresser I found recently into our room, the size is perfect even if the color isn't, we will make it work. It makes the room feel so much bigger, seems strange to me.
Finally hung some picture frames we have had  in a drawer for 5 years!

Picked up a nightstand for the Mr. and took my girly one back, and finally cleaned all 3 of the drawers out! Receipts and boarding pass from 2 years ago, really?! And hubby's old homework list and school books from last year. Someone around here *might* have some hoarding tendencies, but I'm not naming names. ;)
I don't care that the nightstands don't match. I actually prefer that they don't.

Got some extension cords for all these things that have to be plugged in. Phone chargers, lamps, tablet charger and alarm clocks. I REALLY dislike seeing cords!
Before :/

Much better, just need to clip that one back better

I have a couple of shelves that I am not going to attempt to hang myself, I am horrible at that stuff. And I am still looking for a few more cute things, I need something big for on top of our armoire but then I think I will be done in there! Until I decide it needs a re-do hehe.

Overall though this week was pretty alright in the late Fall Cleaning I have going on. We are having family over for a Christmas get together, In only 5 weeks. I am hoping I can get everything done by then! If every week was like this one it would be a snap!

Anyone else have projects to do before family comes for the Holiday's?

Keeping it real.. didn't get it all done!

And by not all, I mean hardly any!

Sometimes that is just the way it works.

We (by we I mean hubby) got the tub and toilet re-caulked.
Shelf built
wood trim re-caulked
and I cleaned out all the drawers and cabinets, no idea how I collect so much stuff in there!
I could not find a table that fit in this little nook, ended up snagging an IKEA plant stand a couple months ago, just getting around to using it.

So we did get some stuff done, it wasn't a total failure for the week. In spending additional time in there I realized we needed to change some things.

I've always hated our tp holder, it was just never right, it's getting replaced!

And I feel like there are far too many lights for this smallish room,
alternate light fixture coming up!

And while I spent 80% of my cleaning time just in the bathroom this is what happens

Beds not made, laundry all over, yeah the whole rest of the house is like this. Dishes are done though that is about it. I really stuck to just the bare minimum everywhere else.

I don't know if I will ever really get this whole balance of work and home to match my previous standards. Stuff just gets to me when it's messy!

Not making a special trip into town for a light fixture or tp holder, but those will get done soon.
This week I am working on our bedroom, and if I finish it, our sweet girly's bedroom.

Fall Cleaning Progress

I've been fall cleaning like crazy all week. I didn't finish like I wanted to, the baby (he is 2 now, but is still the baby ) has Pneumonia, but today he is super chipper and feeling better so I am hoping to get the Halloween stuff out and get some help from hubby to finish up the fall cleaning!

And here are some pics of our cabinets, before and after! (let's see how how long we can keep em that way)

Fall Cleaning List ~Living Room~

Think I have my Living Room/Family Room list done!
It should be a little easier because there isn't as much stuff in here!
And this year it will be even easier, we just replaced our couch and chair, so I can take upholstry cleaning off the list! And  the new one doesn't have removable cushions. THANK goodness! No more fishing for toys/cheerios and random other things.

My list isn't much different than most years!
~Wash throw blankets
~Fluff pillows in dryer
~Clean the rug
~Dust.. especially the fan!
~I NEED to change the pictures in our frames!
~Clean the windows, usually I just do the parts the kids can reach, but I should get the step stool out!
~Wash the walls
~Clean the baseboards
~Touch up paint
~Touch up baseboard paint
and when that is all done..
~Go through ALL my magazines (I have far too many)

Fall Cleaning List ~Kitchen~

Finally got my kitchen list done, and I can't wait to start next week!
I usually do the kitchen first because it takes the most time!
I like to start at the top and work my way down before I clean the floors. But if there is something that takes a while to soak or work, start those first. Like a self cleaning oven, or filling in nail holes that need to be painted.

~Take picture down above doors
~Stuff that needs to work, or dry (nail holes, self cleaning oven, microwave vents)
~Dust, and get all the corners
~Vacuum tops of cabinets
~ Wash windows (ours are hard to reach for me, so I don't do it every week)
~Clean out cabinets. For me this means, purge, clean cabinet insides and organize.
~Polish the cabinets
~Clean out under the sink
~Empty and Clean the fridge and freezer (sides and back too)
~Empty and clean pantry
~Go through cookie cutters (and purge!)
~Clean baseboard
~Touch up cabinet stain
~Touch up wall paint
~Touch up baseboard paint

Obviously some of these won't apply to you (unless you are a cookie cutter hoarder like me,
or have recently taken down some stuff that left nail holes)
I actually have already started on a few of these! Those cookie cutters were bugging me.
I'm hoping I can get this whole list done next Monday!
How are your lists coming? What's on them?

Fall Cleaning

It's like Spring Cleaning but better, at least in my opinion. My reward for getting it done is usually some yummy smellin' pumpkin-y candles and/or a Vanilla Chai Latte,
and I prefer those over spring/summer smells
My favorite candle right now is Bath and Body Works Caramel Pumpkin Latte!

The first day of Fall is Sept. 23rd this year! That is our little Finnley's birthday! So I am not starting then, and the next day is his party! And I am pretty sure we will need Sunday to recover.
But Monday I am planning on getting my week long FALL CLEANING started!
I have done this every year for a while, and it's always a little different. Maybe last years, or the years before plan would work for you. Find them HERE. If you need time to clean Article Writing Services will make sure you still have free content for your blog.

I won't actually start cleaning until then, but for now I need a plan and to make sure we have all the supplies so I can actually get it done without any extra trips to the store!

Here is my plan:
Monday~ Kitchen
Tuesday~Family Room, Living Room
Wednesday~Bathrooms
Thursday~Bedrooms
Friday~Anything inside I missed the other days/outside
Saturday~Garage/outside (depending on weather)
Sunday~(wrapping up outside)

It will take me a few days, but I will have my notepad, or phone, and make lists for each room of the things that need to be done. Sometimes it's just weird little things I wouldn't put on the everyday list or a generic deep cleaning list.

But a few things make the list just about every time. The usual are
Touch up paint
Touch up moulding
Vacuum vents
Cobb webs
I can pretty much figure all the rooms will need this done,
moulding painting is one of my least favorite things to do.

If you fall clean, what is on your list?

I'll have a list for Kitchen's soon!
