I also came to the conclusion that most of the coupons offered were for products that were not healthy for our family. But I still regularly search for/print internet coupons for things like olive oil, vinegars, cooking wines, tuna fish, spices - in those cases that buying from Aldi or a bulk store like Sam's don't make more sense. I also learned a lot through searching for coupon blogs specific to the stores I shop at, like Kroger and Meijer. There are store specific rewards programs that have really helped out over the years and that I continue to take advantage of. When I check these blogs now, I probably scroll past 90% of the "deals" but a few minutes of time skimming will usually save me some money. Everyone's circumstances are different obviously, but I still recommend coupons for things like that and for non-food items you would buy anyway - toothpaste, toothbrushes, sanitary napkins, shampoo, etc. In those cases that buying in bulk isn't the answer for you. I've developed a mix and match approach, combining real food purchases from Aldi and Meijer with occasional trips to Sam's, the local butchers, farmer's markets, etc. Couponing is a small part of what I do, but still saves us some money. Store rewards programs have been my biggest savings lately, including programs that reward you for filling prescriptions at their stores. :)Klinkj0806https://www.blogger.com/profile/15478276602079178311noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6378988778053152364.post-79333452171265794822013-10-21T17:21:12.914-07:002013-10-21T17:21:12.914-07:00Yes, having things you don't and won't eve...Yes, having things you don't and won't ever need is wasteful. I meant that I was jealous of the amount of storage, not what was in it. I love seeing those lovely canning jars of real food lining the shelves & wish I had more!Lisa Mariehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01369361871250008251noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6378988778053152364.post-78837028600078312013-10-21T15:53:51.087-07:002013-10-21T15:53:51.087-07:00Agreed! I have found better deals on my Safeway Club Card if I take a few moments to load the just4u deals - and they DO often have ones for produce/veggies etc.

The things I tend to stock up on are canned goods like veggies/diced tomatoes/beans - crockpot foods ;-)Leslienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6378988778053152364.post-89333990744150297702013-10-21T15:37:33.560-07:002013-10-21T15:37:33.560-07:00I agree 100%!! We don't do many coupons here either, unless its cereal, for my rice krispie addict.Katiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15375131680684471491noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6378988778053152364.post-81264381264008347292013-10-21T09:33:52.472-07:002013-10-21T09:33:52.472-07:00I think a good stock is important but not more too...I think a good stock is important but not more toothpaste than a family can use in 5 years or diapers when no one wears them :) there are plenty of people that can use those, I think spending a little more on real food and canning it yourself is a great way to build stock!Brittanie Gordonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16152950449328825126noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6378988778053152364.post-25609789002974356932013-10-21T09:04:39.065-07:002013-10-21T09:04:39.065-07:00I absolutely agree! I'd have to disagree with the "excess" part, though. I think it's smart & incredibly important to have a significant food storage. We have a good amount, but not nearly as much as I feel we should. It's always good to be prepared for an emergency (be it a natural disaster or unexpected financial difficulty). That is the only thing that tempts me when I watch those couponing shows! I wish I had that kind of back up in our garage ;)Lisa Mariehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01369361871250008251noreply@blogger.com
